Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Whitfield! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Darrel Petersen! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whitfield misses with the combination.
Whitfield throws the kick towards the body but Petersen avoids it. Whitfield lands a head shot.
It looks like Darrel Petersen has been cut. Whitfield misses with a body kick. Petersen appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Petersen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Whitfield moves away. Whitfield lands a glancing blow to the side of Petersen's head. Whitfield fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Petersen. Whitfield cracks Petersen with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Decent striking displayed by Petersen there. Petersen pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Petersen takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Whitfield looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Whitfield misses with a right hand and Petersen counters with a straight right hand. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Petersen fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Petersen misses the shot to the body. A looping hook to the body misses from Petersen. Whitfield does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whitfield uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Petersen.
A little feinted left hand from Whitfield on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Whitfield looks to throw the jab but Petersen is out of range. Petersen misses with a hook to the body
and Whitfield counters with a lovely shot to the body. Nice defenses there by Petersen. Whitfield misses with a wild body shot. A swing and a miss from Petersen. Whitfield scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Petersen with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Whitfield to score with a decent uppercut. Whitfield connects with a body shot. Whitfield looks to land a left hand but Petersen moved out of range nicely. Petersen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Whitfield was well out of range. Poor timing from Petersen. Petersen is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Whitfield rather than just go for the knockout. Whitfield misses with an uppercut. Petersen saw that one coming. Whitfield fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Petersen looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Whitfield swings for the body but Petersen moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Petersen moves out of range of the strikes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Whitfield cracks Petersen with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Petersen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Whitfield. Whitfield swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Petersen looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Petersen shoots in and drives through. Whitfield sprawls well. Jab, jab by Whitfield - just one landing. Petersen takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Whitfield swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A countering left hand to the body from Petersen misses. A big left from Petersen misses. Petersen checks a leg kick. Whitfield lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Whitfield swings away with a leg kick that misses. Petersen connects with a jab. Petersen jabs at Whitfield's body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whitfield lands the left hand. Whitfield wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Whitfield throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Whitfield feints and then cracks Petersen's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Petersen down. Petersen digs a good hook to Whitfield's body.
Petersen misses with a looping left. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Whitfield, right into the meat.
Whitfield swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Petersen or perhaps it was just good defense by Whitfield, which made it look bad. Whitfield ducks under a wild hook from Petersen. A nice inside leg kick there by Whitfield. That's going to slow Petersen down. Whitfield uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Petersen. Petersen shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Whitfield throws a right hand that Petersen ducks under and follows up with a left that Petersen also avoids with ease. This has been an exciting period of action! Petersen's corner calls for a 1-2. Petersen obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Kevin Whitfield is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Petersen avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Whitfield lands a big head kick that sends Petersen tumbling to the mat! Whitfield takes a step backwards and waves Petersen back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Petersen is rocked! Petersen leaves his chin hanging out and Whitfield seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Petersen crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
