PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alfonso Mcintyre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Wick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alfonso Mcintyre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Wick!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wick pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Mcintyre back to the cage. Wick follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.


It looks like Alfonso Mcintyre has been cut.
Wick throws a right and a left that both miss.

Wick manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mcintyre on his heels. He'll look to pass Mcintyre's guard now, I'm sure.

Mcintyre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wick doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wick manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wick must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wick stands and steps away. Mcintyre gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Mcintyre is looking to counter the offense by Wick and move into the clinch.

Wick wants to clinch but Mcintyre slips to the side
and Mcintyre counters with a left and a right that stings Wick.
Wick throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mcintyre.

Wick fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mcintyre sprawls well initially but Wick persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mcintyre is looking to control Wick's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mcintyre avoid being mounted?
Mcintyre could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Wick seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mcintyre does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mcintyre flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Wick takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Wick is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mcintyre might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mcintyre wants to get back to full guard.
Wick scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Wick is in close to Mcintyre's body, working some short punches and elbows.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcintyre accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wick is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Wick is pulling down on Mcintyre's head. It's preventing any offense from Mcintyre, at least for the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wick is looking to improve his position.
Wick moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Wick dominated that round.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mcintyre shoots in for a double leg but Wick sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wick misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wick closes the distance looking to clinch

and Mcintyre counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mcintyre slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wick pulls Mcintyre in close to prevent any damage.
Wick has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wick is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Wick throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mcintyre escapes and throws Wick's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mcintyre creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Wick is letting Mcintyre control him for a moment.
Mcintyre wants to control but Wick is keeping him busy.
Wick tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mcintyre wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Wick is looking for a sweep.
Mcintyre is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Wick will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Wick is trying to get back to half guard.
Wick is still trying to improve position.

You can see the frustration on Wick's face as Mcintyre controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Wick closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mcintyre quickly recovers to half guard.
Mcintyre is staying active underneath Wick, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Wick lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mcintyre bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wick's guard.

Wick wants to get back to his feet but Mcintyre passes into half guard.
Mcintyre stops Wick from getting back to his feet.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mcintyre lands a nice short elbow.
Mcintyre is trying to control the action in half guard but Wick is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wick regains full guard. Nicely done.
John Wick has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wick gets tackled into the cage by Mcintyre. Mcintyre maintains the clinch.
Mcintyre is trying to force a seperation but Wick has the dominant position.
Mcintyre fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Mcintyre pulls guard effortlessly.
Wick works over Mcintyre with some ground and pound from guard.
Wick landing some decent shots from guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcintyre is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wick defends well.

Wick got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mcintyre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wick has managed to get both his arms back between Mcintyre's legs - danger averted.

Wick gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Wick has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mcintyre tries to pull guard but Wick forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Wick prevents Mcintyre from breaking the clinch.
Mcintyre drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wick pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alfonso Mcintyre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wick is really turning it up, unleashing another crisp combination which drops Mcintyre like a ton of bricks! The referee dives in to stop the fight, saving Mcintyre from another fist facial!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Wick!
