PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Serge Carpenter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Miller might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Lava Lava. Serge Carpenter told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Serge Carpenter!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Miller decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Miller working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Carpenter pushes Miller off looking to stand but Miller dives back in and keeps control.
Carpenter has his hands clasped together around Miller's back. He's all about the action.

Miller is looking for a kimura but Carpenter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage.
Miller is pressing down on Carpenter's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carpenter is holding on for now.

Carpenter is looking for a sweep. Miller is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Miller looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Carpenter tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Carpenter is looking to improve his position.
Carpenter tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Miller has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Carpenter prevents Miller from taking his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller stands up from mount. Strange move.
Miller shoots in and drives through. Carpenter sprawls well.

Carpenter drives through with a takedown into guard.
Miller is breathing heavily.
Carpenter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Carpenter cracks Miller with a solid left hand.

Carpenter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Carpenter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miller. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carpenter looks to land a combination but Miller avoids it well.

Miller has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Carpenter off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Carpenter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Miller's guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Serge Carpenter just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Miller drops back, looking for a kneebar! Carpenter looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Carpenter looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Carpenter!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Carpenter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carpenter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Carpenter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Miller manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Well Carpenter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
