Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rashid Magomedov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Royce Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Gracie moves out of range as Magomedov strikes.
Gracie was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie throws a solid leg kick but Magomedov takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Gracie.
Gracie tries a low kick but Magomedov avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
A low kick from Gracie misses
and Magomedov counters with a right hand to the body.
Magomedov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gracie was well out of range. Poor timing from Magomedov.
Gracie was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Gracie on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Magomedov cracks Gracie with an open hand slap.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A low kick from Gracie misses
and Magomedov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gracie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gracie is looking for the big counter here.
Magomedov swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
Gracie tried to score with a low kick but Magomedov checks it.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Magomedov connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Magomedov punishes Gracie's body with a nice straight punch.
Gracie does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Magomedov bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Good shot there by Magomedov.
Gracie throws a leg kick that is checked
and Magomedov cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gracie thows a leg kick but Magomedov checks it
and Magomedov counters with a big right hand! Oh Gracie is in trouble here! Magomedov follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rashid Magomedov!
In his post fight interview, Rashid Magomedov started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
