The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byczynski throws a shot from downtown. Filipovic moves away and avoids it.
Filipovic takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Filipovic throws a poor cross that misses
and Byczynski counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Mirko Filipovic has been cut.
Jari Byczynski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Byczynski moves into the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Byczynski as Filipovic tries to tie him up.
Filipovic struggles to land a body shot inside as Byczynski controls his hands.
Filipovic throws a punch but it's blocked by Byczynski.
Byczynski has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Filipovic has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

and Filipovic counters with a solid body kick.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fighters circling - Filipovic throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Filipovic throws the kick towards the body but Byczynski avoids it.

Byczynski rushes Filipovic and presses him up against the cage.
Filipovic will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Byczynski up against the cage.
Byczynski lands with a right to the head.
Byczynski is pushing Filipovic up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Byczynski misses with a punch on the inside.
Filipovic wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Byczynski has him pressed against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Byczynski lands a nice uppercut.
Filipovic can't break the clinch.

Filipovic breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Byczynski throws a jab but it's blocked by Filipovic.
Filipovic takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Byczynski feints and then cracks Filipovic's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Filipovic down.

and Byczynski counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Filipovic throws a leg kick but Byczynski checks it.
Byczynski half committed to a counter leg kick.
Byczynski lands with a straight right. Filipovic didn't see that one coming.
Byczynski is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Byczynski lands a big right hand that sends Filipovic crashing to the mat! Byczynski stays standing though and waves Filipovic back to his feet!


Filipovic is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Byczynski fakes the body blow, causing Filipovic to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Filipovic goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jari Byczynski!
A very excited looking Jari Byczynski made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
In defeat, Mirko Filipovic stepped up to the mic, saying 'I just didn't follow the gameplan right. I'm better than this and I'll be back on top soon'.
