PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Munk King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaunius Petrs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Munk King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jaunius Petrs!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Petrs leaves King with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Petrs unleashes a big counter combination but King bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
King closes the distance and clinches up with Petrs, looking for a takedown. King pushes Petrs against the cage but Petrs circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Munk King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Petrs fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Petrs scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

King moves into the clinch successfully.

King is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Petrs can't fight it off and eventually King manages to take the fight to the floor. Petrs looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Petrs is looking to stand up but King isn't so interested in that idea.
Petrs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Petrs wants to get back to his feet but King is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Petrs bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in King's guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Petrs wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Petrs might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control King haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

King has his foot on Petrs's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Petrs works his way back into a safe position though.
Petrs wants to stand and escape but instead King has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Petrs pulls King in to control the position.
Petrs trying to keep a closed guard but King is proving a slippery customer.
King pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Petrs is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

King decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Petrs, up you get!

King moves into the clinch.
Petrs wants to get back to striking at distance but King won't allow it.
King has Petrs pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Petrs manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Munk King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
King using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Petrs gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

King manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
King content to slow the pace in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King tries to pull guard but Petrs forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

King breaks the clinch.
Petrs misses with the combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Petrs fails in his attempt to clinch.
Petrs stuffs the takedown.
Petrs throws a push kick but King slaps the foot to one side.
It looked like King was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
King tries to clinch up but Petrs circles away and keeps his distance.

Petrs gets a clinch.
Petrs is trying to break the clinch but King has him pressed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Munk King dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Petrs moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Nice sprawl there from King as Petrs shoots in.
Petrs throws a right and a left that King avoids nicely.

King closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sloppy strikes there by King.
Petrs manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
King missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
King throwing shots but Petrs is blocking nicely.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.
King looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Petrs with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Petrs is trying to stand up here but King is controlling him well.
King tries to pass the half guard into mount. Petrs knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

King has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Petrs defend it? King steps over the head and cranks it - Petrs is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for King!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Munk King!
