Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Russell Northrop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Howson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Northrop comes to the cage accompanied by Alive And Kicking. Russell Northrop could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Dan Howson's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Russell Northrop! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Howson! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howson walks into a left hand. Northrop ducks under a wild hook from Howson. Northrop lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Northrop ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Howson moves away. Russell Northrop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Howson misses with a looping left. Northrop is looking to counter punch. Northrop shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Howson's guard. Northrop throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Howson managing to control the position. Northrop lands a couple of elbows. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Howson pulls Northrop in close to prevent any damage. Northrop wants to pass the guard but Howson is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Northrop is fighting to break Howson's control of his arms but Howson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Howson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Northrop controls the pace. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Northrop wants to pass the guard but Howson is keeping the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. We've been informed that Howson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Northrop swings for the body but Howson moves out of range.
Howson tries a quick counter leg kick but Northrop is wise to it. Howson looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Northrop misses with a wild body shot. Howson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Northrop lands a jab to the nose. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Northrop checks a leg kick. Northrop swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Northrop falls off balance throwing a combination
and Howson counters with a straight right hand. A combination from Northrop does no damage. Northrop is looking to wear down Howson with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Northrop misses with a wild body shot. Howson works Northrop's body with a nice hook.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Northrop lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Howson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Northrop. Howson avoids the body shot from Northrop.
Northrop misses the shot to the body. A countering left hand to the body from Howson misses. Howson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Northrop looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Northrop swings widly with a right hand
and Howson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Northrop missing with a left hand there. Howson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Howson throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Northrop's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Howson dives in looking to finish as Northrop flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Howson's strikes! Howson is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Northrop's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Northrop was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dan Howson! Dan Howson is the new welterweight champion! A relieved looking Dan Howson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
