The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funk throws a hook but Man avoids it easily.
Man is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Funk.
Funk rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Man moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Man misses with a looping left.
Man tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Funk defends well and Man ends up having to push Funk into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Funk throws a jab when Man was well out of range.
Man shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Funk as he avoids it easily.
Funk cracks Man with a good jab.
Man slips a jab from Funk.
Funk feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Man's calf.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Man is looking to clinch.
Funk swings for the body but Man moves out of range.
Funk lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Man tries to close the distance and clinch up but Funk swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Man shoots for a double leg takedown but Funk sprawls well. He's pushed Man's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Skeng Man. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Funk is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Man.

Man has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Funk is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Man thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Man working the ground and pound but Funk is defending the strikes.

Man goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Funk rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Man's guard! Nice work there by Funk!
Funk slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Funk got a little sloppy there for a moment and Man has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Funk has managed to get both his arms back between Man's legs - danger averted.
Funk won't allow Man to sweep him here.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Man manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Funk manages to get himself to full guard.

Man drops back looking for a leg! Funk is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Funk manages to kick Man off! Man jumps back into Funk's guard.

Man drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Man jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Funk is controlling Man's posture.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Funk wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Man is now in half guard.
