Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Berg Captain Hook! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrei Garland! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Captain Hook fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Captain Hook throws out a loose jab but Garland uses good head movement to avoid it. Captain Hook swinging wildly here.
Andrei Garland seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Captain Hook throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Garland takes a body punch but keeps moving. Captain Hook swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Garland looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Garland should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Garland stops Captain Hook from standing up. Captain Hook manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Garland manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Garland is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Captain Hook is aware though and is defending well. Captain Hook trying to control the position from guard on top but Garland is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Captain Hook throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Captain Hook throws a big elbow that misses. Captain Hook postures up.
Garland might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Captain Hook haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garland escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Captain Hook gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Garland avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Garland working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Captain Hook. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Garland is on top in guard.
Garland tries to free his leg and advance position but Captain Hook is retaining full guard. Captain Hook seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Captain Hook wants to sweep but no luck. Garland wants to control from the top but Captain Hook keeps moving. Captain Hook trying to keep a closed guard but Garland is proving a slippery customer.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Garland trying to control the position from guard on top but Captain Hook is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Garland drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Garland jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Captain Hook utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Garland is pushing down on Captain Hook's leg trying to pass to half guard. Captain Hook is fighting to maintain full guard but Garland has managed to sneak the leg through. Captain Hook is refusing to be controlled, as Garland sits in half guard. Garland sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Captain Hook defending well though. Garland is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Captain Hook defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garland is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Captain Hook is just riding it out for now. Garland eventually gives up the hold. Garland trying to mount his opponent but Captain Hook defends it. Garland is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Captain Hook defends it well. Captain Hook tries to get to full guard but Garland has control of the leg. Garland is looking for a kimura but Captain Hook is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Garland to get the leverage. Garland is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! Garland tries to pass to full mount but Captain Hook defends it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Garland seems to be looking for submissions.
Garland is trying to control the action in half guard but Captain Hook is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Andrei Garland will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Captain Hook lands with a good body shot. Captain Hook throws a hook but Garland blocks it. Garland fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Garland feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Garland tries to free his leg and advance position but Captain Hook is retaining full guard. Garland working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Garland postures up.
Captain Hook wants to stand up but Garland is controlling him. Garland stopping the sweep attempt from Captain Hook. Garland stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Captain Hook swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Garland is pushing down on Captain Hook's leg trying to pass to half guard. Captain Hook is fighting to maintain full guard but Garland has managed to sneak the leg through. Captain Hook trying to control but Garland postures up.
Captain Hook is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Garland is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Garland seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Captain Hook does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Garland is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Garland is pressing down on Captain Hook's thigh, looking to free his foot. Captain Hook is holding on for now. Captain Hook is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Andrei Garland has got the better of the ground game so far. Garland is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Captain Hook has managed to free his arm - good work. That's three minutes gone in the round. Garland working away. Captain Hook is looking to reverse the position. Garland looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Captain Hook is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Garland asserts his dominance and retains side control. Captain Hook is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Garland throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Garland moves into full mount! Captain Hook won't be happy about that! Garland content just to control the position here. Garland has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Garland has hold of Captain Hook's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Captain Hook manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Garland takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Captain Hook tries to hold on but Garland postures up. Garland working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Captain Hook turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Garland off and cradles Captain Hook's limp body as Garland celebrates with his corner.
