Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Daryl Newton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Power! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newton ducks under a wild hook from Power. Power rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Newton counters with a two punch combo. Newton tries a head kick but it misses.
Power looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Newton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Newton has closed the distance and engaged Power in a clinch.
Newton missing with knees to the body.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Power. Power misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Newton.
Power tries a body shot but Newton blocks it.
Still in the clinch, Power scores with a nice short uppercut. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Power. Newton wants a takedown.
A short left from Power. Power tries to break the clinch but Newton is controlling the position. Power misses with the head strike.
Power lands an uppercut. Newton can't get the takedown.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Power is looking to break free of the clinch but Newton has double underhooks. Newton can't find room to land a body shot as Power controls the action.
That's one minute gone in the round. Power fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
A head punch on the inside from Power fails to land. Power lands a shoulder strike. Power wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Newton has him pressed against the cage. Power managing to block the knees to the body from Newton.
Power misses with a short punch on the inside. Power tries to throw a body punch but Newton avoids it by throwing Power back against the cage. Power avoiding damage as Newton throws knees to the body.
Power is trying to break the clinch but Newton has him pressed against the cage. Power wants to break the clinch but can't.
Power throws a punch but it's blocked by Newton. Newton prevents Power from breaking the clinch. Power working aggressively here.
Power wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Newton lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Power. Newton unloads a knee to the mid-section. Power lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Newton blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Newton tries a body shot but Power blocks it.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Power. Power is trying to break the clinch but Newton has him pressed against the cage. Newton has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Power avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daryl Newton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Newton lands an elbow inside that Power shrugs off. Power tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Newton pushes Power back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Power tries to circle away but Newton has him pinned against the cage. Newton goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Newton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Power gets in close and instigates a clinch. A short body shot lands from Newton as the two fighters clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Power misses with a punch on the inside.
Newton lands a nice knee to the body. Newton keeps control of Power as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Power is trying to force a seperation but Newton has the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Power is looking to break free of the clinch but Newton has double underhooks. Newton lands an elbow inside. Power tries to throw a body punch but Newton avoids it by throwing Power back against the cage. Power is trying to break the clinch but Newton is controlling him. Power is fighting off a takedown attempt but Newton is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Power to the mat. Power regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Power wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Newton manages to pass to side control. Newton prevents Power from standing back up.
Power looks winded! Power pushes Newton off, looking to escape but Newton dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Power is forced to tap! The fight is over!
