PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Grin Ribber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tarik Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ribber comes to the cage accompanied by Ay Ay Ay. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grin Ribber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Tarik Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribber throws a series of punches but Johnson avoids them all with ease.

Ribber gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Johnson wants to get back to striking at distance but Ribber won't allow it.
Ribber misses with the head strike.
Ribber lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Johnson backwards.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson's coach down at LOD-Guts & Glory Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Johnson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Johnson connects with a jab.
Ribber throws a sloppy head kick and Johnson moves out of range easily.
Ribber throws a leg kick which misses Johnson's front leg but catches the back leg as Johnson tries to avoid it.

Ribber moves into range and clinches up with Johnson.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ribber loads up on a big right hand but Johnson slips the punch.
Ribber staying out of range there.
Johnson attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Ribber misses with a straight left.
Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Johnson lands a lovely overhand right.
Sloppy strikes from Johnson. Those never looked like landing.
Ribber connects with a right hand. Johnson shakes it off.
Ribber fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ribber throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ribber closes the distance and clinches.
Ribber tries to work over Johnson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Ribber. Ribber obviously looking to wear him down.
Ribber connects with the punch.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A jab from Johnson misses.
Johnson swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Ribber is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Ribber connects with an inside leg kick.
Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ribber is looking to counter with head kicks.
Johnson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ribber counters with a stiff right hand.
Tarik Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ribber connects with a single shot there.
Ribber ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Johnson loads up on a big right hand but Ribber slips the punch.
Johnson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ribber scores with a nice right hand.
Ribber connects with a body shot that sends Johnson's belly button to the back.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Johnson, as that shot connected.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ribber counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Grin Ribber has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tarik Johnson.
Johnson misses with a right hand
and Ribber counters with a good low kick that Johnson was not able to check.
Johnson looks winded!
Johnson avoids a kick to the body.
Ribber feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Johnson's calf.

Ribber moves into the clinch.
Ribber misses with a short punch on the inside.
Johnson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Johnson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ribber is defending well.
Ribber lands a left hand that snaps the head of Johnson backwards.
Johnson wants to break free but Ribber has control.
Ribber pushes Johnson back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Johnson wants to get back to striking at distance but Ribber won't allow it.
Johnson tries to circle away but Ribber has him pinned against the cage.
Ribber has a couple of punches blocked by Johnson.
A shot in the inside from Ribber.
Ribber lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.


Johnson is rocked!
Ribber lands a shoulder strike.
Johnson is still on wobbly legs! Can Ribber finish him?
Ribber makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ribber.
Ribber is leaning against Johnson and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Ribber tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Ribber misses with the head strike.
Johnson has Ribber pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ribber manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Johnson seems to have recovered his senses.
Ribber misses with a body punch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Johnson.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ribber.
Ribber misses with a body punch.
A shot in the inside from Ribber.
Johnson tries to score a body lock takedown but Ribber shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Johnson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ribber fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Ribber looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A little jabbing left from Johnson on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ribber feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Johnsons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Johnson misses with a left hand
and Ribber counters with a solid body kick.
Ribber scores with a sloppy right hand. Johnson should have avoided that one.
Ribber cracks Johnson on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Johnson falls backwards against the cage. Ribber follows up with more strikes that drop Johnson to his knees. Ribber keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Johnson! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Grin Ribber!
Grin Ribber spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
Tarik Johnson spoke after the fight, saying 'I tried my best, i think this may be my last fight, i would like to thank everybody that helped me get to where i am today.'.
