PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cody Gammon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cenk John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cody Gammon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cenk John!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Daniel Blasius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gammon gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gammon prevents a body shot from John.
John lands a damaging elbow.
John lands an elbow just above Gammon 's eye.
Gammon blocks the elbow strike.
John comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
John gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
John comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Gammon has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but John regains guard immediately.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gammon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gammon chips away with some ground and pound.

John kicks Gammon off and gets to his feet.

Gammon gets tackled into the cage by John. John maintains the clinch.
Gammon tries to score a body lock takedown but John shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
John lands a shot to the body.
Gammon tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. John just stands there and leans against the cage.
John lands an elbow just above Gammon 's eye.

John gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Gammon is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cody Gammon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
John lands on the inside with an uppercut.

John works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Gammon has momentary wrist control but John slips an elbow through the middle.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw John working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
John trying to control the position from guard on top but Gammon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
John is working Gammon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

John stands up over Gammon, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

John lands a couple of digs.
Gammon is breathing heavily.
John lands a couple of decent looking shots.

John distracts Gammon with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
John postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Gammon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for John on the ground.

John decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

John moves into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

John breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gammon looks to clinch
and John counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

John gets caught napping as Gammon dives in and scores a takedown. John manages to retain guard.

John pushes Gammon off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
John lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

John clinches.
John blocks a body shot from Gammon.
John lands an elbow inside that Gammon shrugs off.
John landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
A hook to the body from John.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from John.
A nice glancing elbow lands by John.
John presses Gammon against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
John lands a nice elbow.
John lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gammon takes an elbow to the forehead.

Gammon is fighting off a takedown attempt but John is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gammon to the mat. Gammon regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

John is working Gammon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

John postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
John keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gammon's head.

John connects with a couple of short punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
John chips away with some ground and pound.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cenk John dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


John scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

John rushes Gammon and presses him up against the cage.

Gammon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

John scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Gammon is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
John working the ground and pound.
John trying to control the action but Gammon is working from the bottom.
John gets to mount! Gammon was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

John looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
John breaks from Gammon's wrist control and lands an elbow.
John landing shots from mount.
Cenk John has got the better of the ground game so far.
John lands with some strikes.


Gammon is rocked!
Gammon is bucking up trying to escape but John cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Oh Gammon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
John raining down shots from the mount!
John postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Gammon badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of John around the waist but John pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! John is the winner by TKO! John jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cenk John!
