Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ruban Kozlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Julian Reis!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kozlov throws a jab when Reis was well out of range.
And Reis tries to counter it with a takedown but Kozlov pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Kozlov smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Reis moves away from the strike by Kozlov.
Kozlov throws a jab but it's blocked by Reis.
Reis moves out of range as Kozlov strikes.
And Reis tries to counter it with a takedown but Kozlov pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Reis moves into range and clinches up with Kozlov.
Reis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kozlov prevents it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reis is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kozlov to keep the fight standing.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

I was talking to Kozlov's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Reis closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Reis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Kozlov lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Kozlov is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Reis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kozlov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Kozlov tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Reis's elbow.
Reis tries to score a body lock takedown but Kozlov shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Kozlov tries to throw a body punch but Reis avoids it by throwing Kozlov back against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kozlov creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kozlov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Reis is looking to escape.
Reis tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kozlov landing strikes, looking to finish!
Kozlov lands a big shot there that rocks Reis but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kozlov postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Reis looks a forlorn figure.
Kozlov looking to control but Reis is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

BOOM! Kozlov connects with a massive shot to the dome!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kozlov throws a hook but Reis avoids it easily.
Reis changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

and Reis counters with a single leg into guard. Kozlov didn't expect that.
Kozlov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reis is one step ahead there.
Kozlov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reis on the ground.
Reis is looking to work some ground and pound but Kozlov has wrist control.

Reis drops back looking for a leg! Kozlov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kozlov manages to kick Reis off! Reis jumps back into Kozlov's guard.

Kozlov tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kozlov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Reis defends well.
Kozlov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kozlov is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Reis frees his head nicely. Oh but Kozlov has switched to an armbar! Reis is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
