Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Clinton Mcconnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Artur Repenko! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Ivan Kurochkin and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcconnell is looking to clinch but Repenko is avoiding it.
Repenko tries to sprawl but Mcconnell drives through with a takedown into half guard. Repenko keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mcconnell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mcconnell thows a huge punch but Repenko dodges it nicely.
Repenko blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mcconnell. Repenko is trying is best to control the position here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Repenko tries to roll over but Mcconnell keeps him under control. Mcconnell missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcconnell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Repenko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Repenko tries to roll over but Mcconnell keeps him under control. Repenko is still trying to improve position. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Mcconnell tries to clinch up. Mcconnell is looking to clinch. Repenko with the counter takedown but Mcconnell avoids it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Mcconnell is trying hard to land a takedown here. Repenko sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Mcconnell closes the distance and pushes Repenko back into the cage. Repenko has hold of one of Mcconnell's legs. Mcconnell is fighting the takedown attempt but Repenko gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Repenko lands a couple of digs. Repenko is working Mcconnell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Repenko scoring with some ground and pound. Mcconnell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Repenko is one step ahead there. Repenko content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Mcconnell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Mcconnell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Repenko with a nice head shot there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Repenko distracts Mcconnell with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Repenko loads up on a big left hand. Mcconnell felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Repenko looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Mcconnell can't hide his disappointment, as Repenko celebrates the victory.
