Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoto Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maximus Meridius!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meridius looks for a takedown but Machida sprawls well.
Machida drives through and clinches with Meridius against the cage.
Meridius scores with a knee to the head.
It looks like Lyoto Machida has been cut.
Machida breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Meridius closes this distance looking for a takedown but Machida circles away.
Machida moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Meridius throws a left and a right that both miss
and Machida counters by clinching up.
Machida with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Machida is pressed up against the cage. Meridius has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Machida down to the mat. Machida avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Meridius stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machida swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Meridius tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Machida wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

and Machida counters with a left and a right that stings Meridius.
The crowd cheers as Machida lands an impressive looking overhand right. Meridius doesn't seem phased though.
