PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerry Travis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Travis has chosen Shoot to thrill as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jimmy Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jerry Travis!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Travis instigates a clinch.
Travis is looking for a takedown.
Travis is pressed up against the cage. Burns has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Travis down to the mat. Travis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Burns shoots in and bounces Travis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Travis wants to get back to his feet but Burns passes into half guard.

Burns wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Travis is trying to control but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burns tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Burns is trying to work for a kimura but Travis is defending well.
Travis is looking to get back to full guard here but Burns has managed to pass to side control instead.

Burns decides to stand up, so the ref orders Travis to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Travis takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Travis rushes Burns and presses him up against the cage.

Travis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Travis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Burns circles away.
Travis looks winded!
Burns swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Travis with the counter takedown but Burns avoids it easily.
Sloppy strikes from Burns. Those never looked like landing.
Travis changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Burns throws a head kick that misses.
Burns misses with a low kick as Travis jumps back.
Burns tries to clinch but Travis moves out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Travis.
Burns could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Travis moves into full mount!
Burns tries to hold on but Travis pushes him away.
Travis controlling from mount.
Travis can't control as he wanted to and Burns manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Burns wants to get back to his feet.
Travis blocks the strikes from Burns.
Travis wants to pass the guard but Burns is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Travis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Travis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Burns keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns is trying to stand back up but Travis is controlling him
Burns desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jimmy Burns will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Burns looks for a takedown but Travis sprawls well.

Travis has closed the distance and engaged Burns in a clinch.
Burns has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Travis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Burns has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Travis is trying to keep an underhook but Burns manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Burns wants to take a breather but Travis is having none of it.
Burns is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burns stands up and beckons Travis to join him on the feet.
Burns tries a head kick but it misses.
Travis is breathing heavily.

Burns closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Burns lands in his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burns has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Travis is proving hard to escape from.
Burns lands a couple of elbows.
Travis has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Burns has passed into side control.
Travis is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Burns off and has taken his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Travis has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Burns! Can he survive? No! He's out! Travis gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jerry Travis!
Jerry Travis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
