Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bryan Paul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Austin! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Austin misses with a hook
letting Paul counter with a right hand. Paul scores with a shot to the body.
Paul changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A decent looking cross lands there for Paul. Nice cross by Paul. Austin takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Austin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. It appears Paul was looking to counter with a kick there. Paul scores with a jab to the body. Paul tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Austin was well out of range. Poor timing from Paul. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Austin has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Austin is defended easily by Paul.
That's one minute gone in the round. Austin tries to close the distance and clinch but Paul swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Paul scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Paul fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Decent striking displayed by Paul there. Austin moves into the clinch successfully.
Austin prevents Paul from breaking the clinch. Paul is defending well against a takedown attempt. Austin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Paul is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Bryan Paul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Austin. Austin fails to pull guard.
The referee is keeping an eye on Paul - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Austin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Austin drops his hands momentarily and Paul takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Paul throws a combination. Austin tries to block but a couple of punches get through. The fighters circle, before Paul throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Austin's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Paul lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
