Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Rios! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DK Shaw! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rios gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Rios working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shaw. Rios is adopting a defensive guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shaw wants to control from the top but Rios keeps moving. Rios really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Rios manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shaw manages to get himself to full guard.
Rios will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Rios showing good wrestling skills to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shaw is trying to keep Rios in close.
Rios gets to his feet - Shaw follows without any prompting.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rios tries to keep at a distance but Shaw has taken the fight into the clinch. Shaw prevents Rios from breaking the clinch. Rios avoiding damage.
Shaw decides to pull guard. Rios looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Rios seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shaw for as long as he can get away with. Shaw looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rios stays in close to Shaw's body and controls the position. Shaw is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rios controlling from the top position. Rios gets to his feet - Shaw follows without any prompting. Shaw clinches up with Rios and pushes him back against the cage. Rios has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Shaw uses from the top position. Rios is adopting a defensive guard. Rios working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shaw doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Rios is tightening it up a little... Shaw has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Shaw reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Shaw taps out! Nice BJJ there by Rios!
