PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Pott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AC Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pott comes to the cage accompanied by I Luv It. Slater has chosen Stop What Ya Doin as his entrance music. Roger Pott had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 207.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Roger Pott had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roger Pott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, AC Slater!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pott slips a jab and a cross from Slater.
Slater pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Pott back to the cage. Slater follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Slater shoots in and drives through. Pott sprawls well.
A little feinted left hand from Pott on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Slater is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pott sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Slater swings for the body but Pott moves out of range.

Slater gets the takedown into side control.
Pott takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Check out the look on Slater's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Slater works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pott gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Pott is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Slater scores with a couple of nice shots.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Slater lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slater working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Slater is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Slater content to control rather than advance.
Pott is looking to improve his position.
Slater slips a nice elbow through Pott's hands, connecting with Pott's forehead.

Pott is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Slater scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pott trying to hold on to Slater's head to control him but Slater postures up.
Slater winds up and cracks Pott with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Slater is looking to take a break and control but Pott is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Still in half guard, Slater seems content to control.
Pott has hold of Slater's hands but Slater slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Pott on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pott tries to get out of the position.
Pott tries to kick Slater off but Slater keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Slater scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Slater has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Slater is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Pott manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Slater looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pott jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Roger Pott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AC Slater.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pott keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Slater throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pott fires out a quick counter leg kick but Slater just manages to avoid it.
Slater shoots in but Pott avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Roger Pott is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Slater dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Slater will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Slater throws a lazy right hand but Pott sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Slater's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Slater duly obliges.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slater lands a body shot.
Slater throws a series of punches but Pott moves out of range.
Slater throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slater lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Slater uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Slater looks to throw the jab but Pott is out of range.
Slater connects with a jab.
Slater throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Slater throws out a loose jab but Pott uses good head movement to avoid it.
AC Slater seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slater swings for the body but Pott moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

AC Slater dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Slater misses with a takedown
and Pott counters with a slapping leg kick.
Slater is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pott.
Pott moves out of range of the strikes.
Pott lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Pott slips a straight right by Slater.
Pott is looking to counter with a body kick.
Slater lands with an overhand left.
Slater looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pott is fending him off so far but Slater persists. Nope, Pott circles away and we're back to standing.
Pott looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pott looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Slater connects with a good right hand that stumbles Pott. Pott circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Slater throws a hook to the side of Pott's head but Pott sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slater bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Slater shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Slater was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Pott tries to bench press Slater off him but Slater keeps the position.
Pott knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Slater on the ground.
Slater in side control lands a decent elbow.
Slater in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Pott struggling a bit here.
Slater wants to control but Pott is keeping him busy.
Slater working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Slater working the body and head with strikes.


Pott is rocked!
Slater moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Oh Pott is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Slater looks up at the clock and then as Pott takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Slater smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Slater lands a strong strike to the head of Pott. That's dazed him! Slater looking to finish here. Pott is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Slater lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). AC Slater!
AC Slater tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
