2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Erno Bajza! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gruzdev ducks under a wild hook from Bajza. We've been informed that Bajza has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Nice jab there from Bajza. Gruzdev looks to score with a jab to the body but Bajza is just out of range. Bajza throws out a loose jab but Gruzdev uses good head movement to avoid it. Gruzdev misses with a hook. Gruzdev dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Bajza. That did some damage! Gruzdev looks to land a right hand but Bajza moved out of range. Gruzdev throws a jab but it's blocked by Bajza. Gruzdev thows a left - swing and a miss! Gruzdev lands an overhand right. Gruzdev digs a good body shot into Bajza's ribs. Bajza misses with a low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bajza fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gruzdev to the ground. Bajza is now in Gruzdev's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bajza advances to half guard. Gruzdev tries to get to full guard but Bajza has control of the leg. Bajza passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gruzdev!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bajza lands a big shot there that rocks Gruzdev but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Bajza takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Gruzdev fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Bajza has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Gruzdev misses with a straight left. Gruzdev uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bajza. Bajza has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Gruzdev throws a hook but Bajza blocks it. Gruzdev moves away from the strike by Bajza. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bajza feints and then cracks Gruzdev's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gruzdev down.

Gruzdev misses the shot to the body. Gruzdev throws a series of punches but Bajza avoids them all with ease. Gruzdev bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bajza's head backwards. Bajza lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Gruzdev connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bajza's hands. Bajza fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gruzdev sprawls well initially but Bajza persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Gruzdev manages to escape and get back to his feet! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gruzdev thows a left - swing and a miss! Gruzdev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Bajza slips a nice elbow through Gruzdev's hands, connecting with Gruzdev's forehead. Gruzdev trying to control here.
Bajza keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bajza looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gruzdev with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Bajza lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gruzdev is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bajza in particular looking to stall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Let's hope that Bajza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Nice strikes from Bajza there.
