Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thiago Cavalcanti Azevedo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Shuman! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Azevedo shoots in and drives through. Shuman sprawls well. Shuman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Azevedo throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Shuman won't allow Azevedo to sweep him here. Azevedo working for a triangle but Shuman defends it easily.
Shuman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Azevedo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shuman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Azevedo pulls Shuman in to control the position. Shuman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Shuman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Azevedo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Azevedo wants to sweep but no luck. Shuman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Azevedo working a defensive guard but Shuman passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Azevedo is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Shuman jumps into side control! Azevedo is looking for a sweep. Azevedo can't do much from the bottom here. Shuman is putting a hurting on Azevedo here, landing some big shots from side control. Azevedo is trying to improve his position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Shuman working the ground and pound. Azevedo tries to bench press Shuman off him but Shuman keeps the position. Shuman taking a breather here. Shuman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Shuman working Azevedo over with strikes. Azevedo wants to improve his position but Shuman is controlling well.

It looks like Shuman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Azevedo trying to hold on to Shuman's head to control him but Shuman postures up.
Azevedo is trying to get back to full guard. Shuman is controlling the pace.
Azevedo tries to roll over but Shuman keeps him under control. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shuman scores with a couple of good hammerfists. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank Shuman dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Azevedo shoots and misses and Shuman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Shuman trying to control but Azevedo is working from the bottom. Azevedo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shuman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Shuman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Frank Shuman has got the better of the ground game so far. Azevedo is looking for a triangle but Shuman pushes his legs off easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Shuman scoring with strikes to the body and head. Shuman slips a nice elbow through Azevedo's hands, connecting with Azevedo's forehead. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shuman in particular looking to stall. Shuman lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Azevedo manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Shuman sitting in guard here, content to control. Azevedo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shuman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Shuman stays in close to Azevedo's body and controls the position. Shuman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Azevedo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Shuman postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Shuman controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Shuman passes easily into side control. Nice work. Azevedo is looking for a sweep. Shuman cracks Azevedo with a big elbow. Shuman in side control, just content to control the action for now. Azevedo is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Azevedo takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Azevedo is being controlled here. Azevedo is looking to reverse the position. Azevedo is working hard here to advance position. Shuman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Azevedo keeps working. Azevedo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shuman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Shuman controlling from side mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Azevedo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank Shuman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Azevedo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shuman circles away. Shuman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shuman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Azevedo is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Azevedo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Azevedo tries to bench press Shuman off him but Shuman keeps the position. Shuman takes a little break here. Azevedo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Azevedo is not in a great position here, taking some shots. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Azevedo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shuman is one step ahead there. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shuman's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Shuman content to stall in guard here. Azevedo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shuman manages to get himself to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Azevedo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shuman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Azevedo has managed to get both his arms back between Shuman's legs - danger averted. Shuman looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Azevedo is defending well. Shuman quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Azevedo has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Shuman celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
