Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Clinton Mcconnell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Repenko! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Repenko has Mcconnell up against the cage in a clinch.
Mcconnell pulls Repenko into guard.
Mcconnell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Repenko is controlling him. Repenko trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mcconnell's guard. Mcconnell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Repenko manages to get himself to full guard.
Mcconnell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Repenko is looking to stand back up but Mcconnell counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Repenko. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mcconnell performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Repenko pushes Mcconnell off looking to stand but Mcconnell dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Repenko avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mcconnell. Mcconnell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Mcconnell scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Repenko is looking to escape. Mcconnell landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Mcconnell is controlling the pace.
Mcconnell seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Repenko for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Repenko moves into the clinch. Repenko wants to stall.
Mcconnell goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Repenko is trying to maintain a safe position but Mcconnell gets an underhook and turns Repenko into the cage. Repenko taking a breather. Mcconnell leaning against his opponent.
Mcconnell gets control of Repenko's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mcconnell will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Mcconnell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Repenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Mcconnell is tightening it up a little... Repenko has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Repenko reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Repenko taps out! Nice BJJ there by Mcconnell!
