The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ward wants to get up but he can't break Jamma's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ward gets to his feet. Jamma looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ward moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Ward drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jamma looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jamma looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jamma!

and Ward counters with a takedown into side control.
Ward decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jamma to his feet.
Ward changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jamma tries to avoid it but Ward manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jamma to the ground. Jamma escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ward decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Ward counters with a low kick, right behind Jamma 's knee.

Ward drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jamma dives on top into guard.
