Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Takashi Kadota! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 14 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Pick! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kadota misses with a low kick.
Pick on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Pick scores with a head kick. Kadota tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Pick tries to clinch there but Kadota circles away.
Kadota feinted with a counter takedown. Kadota's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Pick connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Kadota scrambles back to his feet. Pick moves out of range of the leg kick from Kadota. It seemed like Pick was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. A jab from Pick misses. Kadota throws a jab when Pick was well out of range. A momentary lapse in concentration from Pick enables Kadota to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pick manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Pick trying to keep a closed guard but Kadota is proving a slippery customer.
Pick is controlling Kadota's posture. Kadota looking to sit in guard and control but Pick gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pick tries to free his leg and advance position but Kadota is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pick loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Pick sitting in guard, not really doing much. Kadota working a defensive guard here.
Kadota throws his legs up looking for a submission but Pick uses it to pass to side control.
Pick working the head and body with strikes. Pick wants to control but Kadota is keeping him busy. Pick is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pick controlling the position from side mount. Pick lands an elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pick trying to control the position but Kadota is working away. You can see the frustration on Kadota's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kadota tries to buck Pick off but Pick is having none of it. Kadota wants to control but Pick postures up. Kadota is trying to get back to half guard. Pick is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kadota's shoulder. That is not cool. Pick wants to control but Kadota is keeping him busy. Kadota wants to control but Pick postures up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Kadota moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Pick tries to clinch up. Pick displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kadota.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A cross from Pick lands. Kadota throws a low kick, looking for Pick's leg but Pick calmly moves out of range. It seemed like Pick was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. A low kick from Kadota misses and Pick counters with a stiff right hand. Pick rushes Kadota and presses him up against the cage. Pick lands a hook to the side of the head. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Pick lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. A short right from Pick on the inside. Kadota misses with the head strike.
Pick softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kadota tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pick just stands there and leans against the cage. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Pick goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Kadota fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Kadota misses with a punch on the inside.
Pick lands an uppercut. A right hand to the body from Pick.
Kadota is breathing heavily. Pick cracks Kadota with a nice body shot. Still in the clinch, Pick scores with a nice short uppercut. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steve Pick dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Pick circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Kadota to the canvas! Kadota doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Pick keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
