PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Head Coach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Myles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Myles has chosen Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Head Coach had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 2, fighting out of London, Head Coach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darren Myles!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Kavanagh and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Myles ducks under a wild hook from Coach.
Myles tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Myles fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Myles scores with a body shot.
Coach scores with a shot to the body.
Myles shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Coach eats them both and turns towards Myles to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Myles throws a series of punches but Coach moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coach fires out a quick counter leg kick but Myles just manages to avoid it.
Myles closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and Myles counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Myles doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Coach to counter with a crisp jab.
Coach misses with a double jab.
Myles changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Myles throws a series of punches but Coach moves out of range.
Coach jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Myles steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Coach. That one must have hurt.
Coach connects with a crisp jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Myles misses with a body shot
and Coach cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters circling a little - Coach finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Myles shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Head Coach has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darren Myles.

Coach takes the fight into the clinch.

It looks like Darren Myles has been cut.

Myles has clasped his hands together around Coach's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Coach throws Myles to one side and escapes!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Myles with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Myles is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Coach is defending well.

The cut above Darren Myles's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Myles manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Coach on his heels. He'll look to pass Coach's guard now, I'm sure.

Coach has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Myles can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Coach working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Myles doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Myles manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Myles working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Myles stands up over Coach, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Coach is pulling down on Myles's head. It's preventing any offense from Myles, at least for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Myles will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Myles shoots in but no luck this time.
Myles blocks a jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Coach. Myles does a little dance to reset his feet.

Nice straight punches there by Coach. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Coach.
Myles shoots in and drives through. Coach sprawls well.

Myles shoots in and bounces Coach off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Myles lands a couple of elbows.
Myles is pushing down on Coach's leg trying to pass to half guard. Coach is fighting to maintain full guard but Myles has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Coach stalks Myles and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Myles's face. Myles staggers backwards, shaken.
Myles has his takedown stuffed
and Coach counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A nice inside leg kick there by Coach. That's going to slow Myles down.

Myles is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Coach throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Myles takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

A head kick misses from Coach.
Coach throws a looping overhand right but Myles ducks down to avoid it.

Myles drops down looking for an ankle pick but Coach pulls his leg out and moves away.
Myles takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Coach.
Coach lands a lovely overhand right.
Myles takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A slapping body kick lands there for Coach.
Coach tries to close the distance and clinch up but Myles swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Myles closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Coach's guard.

Myles is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Myles got a little sloppy there for a moment and Coach has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Myles has managed to get both his arms back between Coach's legs - danger averted.
