Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vincent Solis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Helmut! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Solis finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Solis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Helmut shoots in and drives through. Solis sprawls well. Solis throws a lazy head kick and Helmut counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Helmut is trying to control the action in half guard but Solis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Solis tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Helmut has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Helmut controlling the pace for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Solis is looking to improve his position but Helmut isn't that keen on the idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. Helmut is landing with some decent strikes but Solis is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Helmut can't control as he wanted to and Solis manages to get the fight back to his half guard. Helmut wants to lay and pray for a moment but Solis keeps working. Solis wants to get back to full guard. Helmut controlling the action here. Solis is staying active underneath Helmut, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Helmut landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Helmut wants to take a breather but Solis is having none of it. Solis looks like he's trying to stand up.
Helmut is taking a breather. Solis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Solis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Solis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Helmut is working away from the top position though. Helmut lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Solis won't allow Helmut to pass to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Helmut wants to lay and pray for a moment but Solis keeps working. Helmut missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Helmut closes the distance and clinches up with Solis, looking for a takedown. Helmut pushes Solis against the cage but Solis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Helmut scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Helmut with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Helmut seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Solis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Helmut is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Helmut tries to stand and escape but Solis is controlling the position. Helmut throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Solis is trying to stand back up but Helmut is controlling him
Solis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Helmut. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Helmut not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Helmut shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Solis is trying to defend but Helmut finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Helmut throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andrew Helmut dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Helmut misses with a takedown and Solis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Helmut's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Helmut rushes Solis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Solis tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Solis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Helmut changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Solis tries to avoid it but Helmut manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Solis to the ground. Solis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. As Helmut looks to move away, Solis throws a big counter combo but Helmut just gets out of the way. Solis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Helmut to score an easy takedown into full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Helmut would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Solis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Helmut controls the pace. Helmut missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Helmut is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Helmut wants to control from the top but Solis keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Helmut is looking to work some ground and pound but Solis has wrist control. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Helmut has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Helmut working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Helmut wants to clinch up but Solis keeps it at a distance. Solis throws a quick counter head kick but Helmut was just out of range. Solis slips a jab from Helmut. A leg kick checked by Helmut. Helmut raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Helmut tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Solis swivels and escapes. Vincent Solis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Helmut. Helmut decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Solis is looking to get back to is feet but Helmut passes into side control.
Helmut is looking to take a break and control but Solis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Solis dodges the ground and pound from Helmut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Helmut is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Solis has escaped the position, nice work there. Helmut wants to control but Solis is keeping him busy. Helmut throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Solis wants to get back to his feet. Andrew Helmut has got the better of the ground game so far. Helmut swings around for an armbar but Solis sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Helmut's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Helmut wants to get back to his feet but Solis is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Solis scoring with some ground and pound. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Helmut holds on and takes a little breather. Helmut is looking to sweep but instead, Solis has passed into half guard.
Helmut has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Helmut actively working from the bottom here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Andrew Helmut will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Helmut shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Helmut trying to advance position but Solis counters by regaining guard. Helmut stands and throws Solis's legs to the side, diving into side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Solis is trying to control Helmut's posture but Helmut avoids it. Solis is looking for a sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Helmut staying calm. Helmut connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Solis some visible discomfort.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Solis is not content to let Helmut control the position. Solis wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Helmut controls the position from side control. Solis tries to improve position but can't. Helmut moves into full mount! Helmut thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Solis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Helmut on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Solis tries to hold on but Helmut pushes him away. Solis is bucking up trying to escape but Helmut cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Helmut controlling his opponent. Helmut with good strikes from the mount here! Helmut goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Solis is on top in guard.
Solis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Solis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Helmut wants to stand but Solis is controlling the position. Helmut is looking for a triangle but Solis pushes his legs off easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Helmut looking to hit a scissor sweep but Solis is one step ahead there. Vincent Solis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Andrew Helmut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Solis lands a couple of decent looking shots.
And that's the end of the fight! Andrew Helmut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Helmut winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
