PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Emilio Beasley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Malenczuk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damian Malenczuk will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Emilio Beasley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damian Malenczuk!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malenczuk misses with an uppercut
and Beasley counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Malenczuk thinking.

Malenczuk darts in and clinches Beasley up against the cage.

Malenczuk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Malenczuk has managed to clinch.
Malenczuk stalling the fight.

Beasley manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Malenczuk working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Beasley's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Malenczuk breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Malenczuk closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Beasley is pressing down on Malenczuk's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Malenczuk tries to stand but Beasley is controlling from the bottom.
Beasley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Malenczuk is controlling him.
Malenczuk has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Montreal. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Malenczuk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Beasley is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Malenczuk presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Beasley jumps guard but Malenczuk stands there with Beasley around his waist. Beasley gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Malenczuk is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Beasley is controlling him.
Beasley controls from within his opponent's guard.
Beasley postures up and lands a big shot to Malenczuk's brow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Malenczuk can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Beasley controls the pace.
Malenczuk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Beasley slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Malenczuk gets caught flat footed, as Beasley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Beasley stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Malenczuk throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Beasley on the side of the head.

Beasley closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Malenczuk did well to prevent Beasley getting side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Emilio Beasley will probably get the nod.

Beasley pushes Malenczuk off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Beasley drags the fight down to the ground.
Beasley avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Beasley wants to get back to his feet but Malenczuk is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Beasley lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Malenczuk has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Beasley has passed into side control.

Beasley cracks Malenczuk with a big right hand but Malenczuk just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Malenczuk seems a little lost for a moment, as Beasley dominates the positioning.
Beasley has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Malenczuk is trying to escape the position but Beasley is controlling the position.

Beasley seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Malenczuk for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Beasley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Malenczuk circles away.

Malenczuk makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.
Beasley lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Malenczuk scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Beasley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Malenczuk is trying to maintain the position but Beasley is very close to passing his half guard.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Beasley gets caught napping as Malenczuk dives in and scores a takedown. Beasley manages to retain guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Beasley manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Malenczuk pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Beasley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Malenczuk's guard.

Malenczuk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Beasley controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Malenczuk has an active guard here but Beasley has managed to pass into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Malenczuk closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Beasley's guard.
Beasley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Malenczuk manages to get himself to full guard.

Malenczuk wants to stand and escape but Beasley is having none of it.
Beasley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Malenczuk looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Beasley is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Beasley's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Malenczuk wants to stand but Beasley is controlling the position.
Beasley engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Malenczuk manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Beasley misses with a punch on the inside.
Damian Malenczuk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Emilio Beasley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Beasley tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Malenczuk just stands there and leans against the cage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Beasley, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
