DFC 22: Saunders Vs Johns PBP Commentary |
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johns is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Saunders missing with a left hand there. Johns was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Saunders throws a body punch but Johns moves out of range. Saunders falls off balance throwing a combination
and Johns counters with a stiff right hand. Good work by Johns as he checks the leg kick. Saunders throws a one two combo.
La'Von Johns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Saunders throws a right hand that Johns ducks under and follows up with a left that Johns also avoids with ease. Johns tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Saunders paws at him with a jab and circles away. Saunders swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Saunders tries to score with a low kick but Johns moves his leg out of the way. Johns is looking to clinch. Johns lands a head shot. The fighters circling - Saunders throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Saunders throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Saunders throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Saunders swats away the attempt to clinch by Johns. Saunders connects with a crisp jab. Johns takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Johns tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Saunders manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Johns connects with a single shot there. Johns doesn't manage to clinch there - Saunders circles away.
Saunders tries to close the distance and clinch but Johns swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Johns gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Saunders . I was talking to Saunders 's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Johns gets through Saunders 's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Johns lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. A head punch on the inside from Johns fails to land. Saunders misses with a short punch on the inside. Johns blocking some punches.

Johns breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jab, jab by Saunders - just one landing. Johns is still on wobbly legs! Can Saunders finish him? Saunders throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Johns colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Saunders as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Johns is left battered and dazed whilst Saunders and his camp cheer!
