PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladislav Munchkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mats Thoreson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladislav Munchkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mats Thoreson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Munchkin misses with a low kick.
Mats Thoreson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Munchkin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Thoreson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Munchkin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Thoreson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Thoreson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like Thoreson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Munchkin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Thoreson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Munchkin circles away quickly and effectively.

Thoreson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Thoreson wants to stand but Munchkin is controlling his arm.
Thoreson tries to score with some ground and pound. Munchkin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Thoreson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Munchkin haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Munchkin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thoreson moves away.
Thoreson throws a sloppy head kick and Munchkin moves out of range easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Munchkin.
Thoreson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Vladislav Munchkin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mats Thoreson.

Munchkin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Thoreson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Thoreson wants to get back to his feet but Munchkin drags him back down.
Thoreson parries the strikes from Munchkin easily there. Munchkin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Thoreson to escape.
Munchkin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
