PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wiley Lang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sebastian Pocic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wiley Lang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sebastian Pocic!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pocic stuffs the takedown.

Pocic has taken the fight to the clinch.

Lang breaks the clinch.
Pocic stuns Lang with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Lang tries to keep at a distance but Pocic has taken the fight into the clinch.

Pocic pulls guard successfully.
Pocic wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pocic is continuing to stall.
Lang really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Pocic pulls Lang in close to prevent any damage.
Lang prevents Pocic from getting back to his feet.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Pocic manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Pocic drags the fight down to the ground.
Pocic looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Pocic controls Lang momentarily but Lang frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lang is looking to work some ground and pound but Pocic has wrist control.
Pocic wants to hit a switch here but Lang passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Pocic there!
Pocic manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Lang sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pocic defending well though.
Pocic is trying to maintain the position but Lang is very close to passing his half guard.
Pocic wants to get back to full guard but Lang has mounted him!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lang won't let Pocic get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Lang postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pocic looks a forlorn figure.
Lang unloading with bombs!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lang avoids the attempt from Pocic to control.
Lang lands with some strikes.
Pocic throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Lang throws some wild stikes that Pocic manages to avoid easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lang is landing with some decent strikes but Pocic is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Pocic working to try and regain half guard.
Lang lands a heavy elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pocic is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Pocic is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wiley Lang dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Pocic lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Lang gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pocic seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Pocic stands and steps away. Lang gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pocic shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pocic was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Pocic passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Lang!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pocic wants to control the pace but Lang is squirming around nicely.
Pocic controlling his opponent.
Pocic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pocic thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Pocic trying to control but Lang is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lang is looking to improve his position but Pocic isn't that keen on the idea.
Pocic trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Pocic goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Lang is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lang is looking to work some ground and pound but Pocic has wrist control.
Lang working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Wiley Lang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pocic is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pocic is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pocic throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Pocic has his hands on Lang's head, controlling the position.
Pocic avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Lang works over Pocic with some ground and pound from guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pocic looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lang is one step ahead there.

Pocic looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sebastian Pocic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Pocic feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Lang trying to control the position.

Lang has his feet on Pocic's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Pocic tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lang paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Pocic manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lang on his heels. He'll look to pass Lang's guard now, I'm sure.

Lang has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Pocic off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A head kick misses from Pocic.
Lang keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pocic closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lang's guard.
Pocic takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pocic controls the pace.
Lang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lang pulls Pocic in close to prevent any damage.
Lang controls Pocic momentarily but Pocic frees himself.

Lang pushes Pocic off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Pocic drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Lang sneaks out the side door and pushes Pocic away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pocic fails with an attempt to clinch.

Lang tries to keep at a distance but Pocic has taken the fight into the clinch.

Pocic has clasped his hands together around Lang's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
You can see the frustration on Lang's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Lang gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lang is trying to stand up here but Pocic is controlling him well.
Pocic is looking to take a break and control but Lang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lang kicks Pocic off and gets back to his feet.
Lang fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pocic lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Sebastian Pocic is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pocic looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lang lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice body punch from Pocic.
Pocic digs a good hook to Lang's body.

Pocic closes the distance and clinches.
Pocic gets underhooks to prevent Lang's takedown attempt.
Pocic wants to break the clinch but can't.
Pocic is trying to break free.

Pocic has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lang uses from the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wiley Lang.
I think Lang has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
