Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Makar Vershinin !
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wilson Wills!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vershinin misses with a double jab.
Wills has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Vershinin is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Wills lands a jab to the head.
Wills tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Vershinin was well out of range. Poor timing from Wills.
Vershinin was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Wills fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Vershinin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wills.
Vershinin takes a shot right to the bread basket.
A telegraphed right hand from Wills misses the target.
Vershinin throws a body punch but Wills moves out of range.
Wills is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wills has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Vershinin is trying to keep an underhook but Wills manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Vershinin is not content to let Wills control the position.

Vershinin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wills trying to control from Vershinin 's half guard. Vershinin has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Wills looking to sit in guard and control but Vershinin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Wills looking for a guillotine here but Vershinin defends easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wills is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Wills has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vershinin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wills is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Wills working for submissions but it's allowed Vershinin to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vershinin is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makar Vershinin dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wills can't find room to land a body shot as Vershinin controls the action.
Vershinin pushes off an throws an elbow but Wills leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Wills tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Vershinin 's elbow.
Vershinin creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Wills's defenses.
Vershinin lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Wills escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wills fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Wills takes a swing at Vershinin 's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vershinin scores with a leg kick.
Wills throws out a leg kick but Vershinin moves out of range and Wills only half commits.
Vershinin lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Wills connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Wills listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Vershinin takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Vershinin moves out of range of the body kick from Wills.

Wilson Wills seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wills tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Vershinin was well out of range. Poor timing from Wills.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Vershinin throws a monster overhand right that drops Wills! Vershinin follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
