Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
53 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bunny Anstey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Palmer! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Palmer connects with a body shot that sends Anstey's belly button to the back. The fight stays on the outside here - Anstey looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Palmer swats away the attempt to clinch by Anstey. Palmer looks like he wants to counter punch here. Anstey darts in and clinches Palmer up against the cage. Anstey swings wildly with an uppercut but Palmer uses good head movement to avoid it. Palmer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Palmer lands a head kick!
Chris Palmer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Anstey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Anstey clinches. Palmer lands a left hand.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Anstey creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Anstey misses with the head strike.
Anstey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Anstey stalling against the cage.
Anstey misses with some punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anstey holding his opponent close, against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Anstey fails to land. Palmer lands on the inside with an uppercut. Anstey swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Palmer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Palmer feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Anstey's calf. Palmer closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Anstey's guard. Anstey is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Palmer loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Anstey wants to stand up but Palmer is controlling him. Palmer controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Palmer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Anstey keeping moving, preventing Palmer from controlling successfully. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Palmer's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Palmer makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Palmer lands a couple of digs. Palmer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Palmer wants to control from the top but Anstey keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Anstey is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Palmer is controlling him. Palmer looking to pass the guard. Palmer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Palmer is looking to work some ground and pound but Anstey has wrist control. Palmer throws a big elbow that misses. Palmer is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Palmer loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Palmer throwing strikes but missing. Anstey is breathing heavily. Palmer stands up over Anstey, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Palmer trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Anstey preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Palmer works a leg free and moves into half guard. Anstey is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Palmer scores with a couple of nice shots. Palmer is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Anstey is hurt! He's hurt bad - Palmer fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Anstey from any more punishment! Congratulations to Palmer! Great finish!
