Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Herbert Monsignor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse Hall! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hall misses with a body kick. Hall is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Monsignor looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Hall scores with a decent looking hook. Hall stuffs the takedown attempt from Monsignor. Monsignor gets slowly back to his feet. Monsignor misses with a takedown attempt - Hall sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Monsignor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herbert Monsignor. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hall misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Monsignor circles away from the clinch attempt.
Monsignor misses with a takedown attempt - Hall sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Monsignor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Hall tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Monsignor paws at him with a jab and circles away. A big right from Hall misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters circling - Hall throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Hall throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Monsignor's head.
It looks like Herbert Monsignor has been cut. Monsignor is looking to clinch but Hall is avoiding it.
Hall darts in trying to clinch and Monsignor counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hall's guard now. Hall looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hall is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Monsignor wants to pass the guard but Hall is keeping the position. Monsignor looking to control the position here, rather than advance. This has been an exciting period of action! Monsignor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hall is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Monsignor trying to control the position from guard on top but Hall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hall controls Monsignor momentarily but Monsignor frees himself.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Monsignor fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hall sprawls well initially but Monsignor persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Monsignor is trying to control the action in half guard but Hall is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Monsignor is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hall is just riding it out for now. Monsignor eventually gives up the hold. Monsignor is breathing heavily. Hall looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monsignor stalling away here and it's allowed Hall to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Monsignor wants to control from the top but Hall keeps moving. Hall looking for a guillotine here but Monsignor defends easily.
Monsignor trying to control but Hall is working from the bottom. Hall trying to keep a closed guard but Monsignor is proving a slippery customer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hall throws a head kick but Monsignor moves out of range.

Monsignor keeps the fight on the outside. Monsignor scores a takedown into full mount! Monsignor forces the positional change into back control. Will Monsignor go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Monsignor scores with punches and elbows. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Monsignor's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Hall is trying to break free.

Monsignor shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hall as he jumps to the side. Monsignor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Monsignor lands in his opponent's guard. Hall working a defensive guard here.
Monsignor tries to free his leg and advance position but Hall is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Monsignor wants to control from the top but Hall keeps moving. Monsignor slips nicely into half guard. Monsignor is working for a submission of some sort.
Monsignor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hall does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monsignor prevents Hall from improving his position. Well, if Monsignor is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Monsignor is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Monsignor trying to control from half guard but Hall is working away. Monsignor is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Monsignor throwing strikes here but Hall is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Monsignor looking for a guillotine from mount but Hall is having none of it. Hall tries to reverse the position but Monsignor maintains control. Monsignor looking to control but Hall is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Monsignor sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Hall is desperately trying to improve his position but Monsignor has a good base and remains in mount. Monsignor has control of Hall's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hall regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Hall bucks Monsignor off and manages to get back to his feet! Herbert Monsignor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Monsignor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Monsignor missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Hall wants to get back to his feet.
Monsignor throwing shots but Hall is blocking nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Monsignor prevents Hall from improving his position. Monsignor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hall keeps working.

Monsignor shoots in and drives through. Hall sprawls well. Monsignor feints and then cracks Hall's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hall down. The fight stays on the outside here - Hall looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Monsignor lands with a kick to the temple. Hall shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Hall tries to close the distance and clinch but Monsignor swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hall moves into the clinch. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Monsignor tries to pull guard but Hall won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herbert Monsignor. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hall dodges an elbow strike from Monsignor.

That's one minute gone in the round. Monsignor manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Hall gets to his feet - Monsignor follows without any prompting. Monsignor fails in his attempt to clinch. Monsignor decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Monsignor tries to pass to full mount but Hall defends it. Monsignor looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Monsignor cracks Hall with a big elbow. Herbert Monsignor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hall is trying to improve his position. Monsignor is trying to get an arm triangle but Hall is defending well. Monsignor tries for a kimura but Hall is defending well. Monsignor is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hall has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hall is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Monsignor's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Monsignor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hall does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Hall looks like he's trying to stand up.
Monsignor thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hall's head. Hall is looking to improve his position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Monsignor drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

It's a sloppy attempt though and Monsignor jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Monsignor trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Jesse Hall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Monsignor preventing the sweep. Monsignor slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Herbert Monsignor showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Monsignor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
