Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryu Hyabusa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Nogueira! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nogueira has a takedown stuffed. Hyabusa looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Nogueira shoots in and drives through. Hyabusa sprawls well. Hyabusa dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Nogueira. That did some damage! Nogueira throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hyabusa's waist but Hyabusa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nogueira off to one side. Ryu Hyabusa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Nogueira. Nogueira looks gassed! A good leg kick by Hyabusa. Hyabusa buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Hyabusa's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hyabusa duly obliges. Hyabusa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nogueira is looking to regain half guard here but Hyabusa keeps moving and retains side control. A lull in the action here. Nogueira is looking for a sweep. Nogueira is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hyabusa off and has taken his back! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hyabusa surviving as best he can, preventing damage. Nogueira is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Hyabusa defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Nogueira working for a choke but Hyabusa reverses nicely into Nogueira 's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hyabusa looking to pass the guard. Hyabusa controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Hyabusa's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Hyabusa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Nogueira is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hyabusa passes Nogueira's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Hyabusa slows the pace down in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hyabusa scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Hyabusa controlling the action here. Hyabusa lands with a punch from half guard. Hyabusa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nogueira on the ground. Nogueira tries to get to full guard but Hyabusa has control of the leg. Hyabusa content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Hyabusa prevents Nogueira from improving his position. Nogueira gets full guard. Hyabusa controlling from the top position.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Ryu Hyabusa just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Hyabusa connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nogueira. Nogueira circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hyabusa clinches with his opponent.

Nogueira is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hyabusa pulls him back up using the underhooks. Hyabusa with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Nogueira goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hyabusa prevents it.

Nogueira is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hyabusa gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Nogueira tries to score a body lock takedown but Hyabusa shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Hyabusa crunches a lovely knee into Nogueira's ribcage. Hyabusa lands a nice knee to the body. Nogueira has Hyabusa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hyabusa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Hyabusa landing knees to the body. Nogueira has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hyabusa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Hyabusa is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Hyabusa lands a damaging elbow. Nogueira has Hyabusa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hyabusa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Hyabusa could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Hyabusa connects with a knee to the head.
Nogueira changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hyabusa fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hyabusa digs a good body shot into Nogueira's ribs. This has been an exciting period of action! Hyabusa buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Nogueira chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Hyabusa can pounce on him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nogueira gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hyabusa counters with a low kick, right behind Nogueira 's knee. Hyabusa lands with a thumping leg kick.
Hyabusa fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Nogueira. Nogueira tries for a takedown but Hyabusa circles away easily and Hyabusa counters with a nice leg kick. Hyabusa has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nogueira has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hyabusa is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Nogueira avoiding damage as Hyabusa throws knees to the body.

Nogueira turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Hyabusa can't do much from the bottom here. Nogueira looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Nogueira has hold of Hyabusa's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hyabusa tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Nogueira cranks the arm and Hyabusa screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hyabusa, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
