PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damon Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damon Guy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Curtis Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damon Guy!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guy lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Curtis Murphy has been cut.
Horrible takedown attempt by Guy or perhaps it was just good defense by Murphy, which made it look bad.
Guy shoots and misses
and Murphy counters with a left and a right that stings Guy.

Guy has managed to clinch.
Guy connects with a knee to the head.

Guy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Murphy crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Guy - the referee stops the clock and Murphy gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Guy. Murphy manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Guy scores with a jab to the body.
Damon Guy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Guy has a takedown stuffed.
Curtis Murphy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damon Guy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Guy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Murphy sprawls well. Murphy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Guy gets slowly back to his feet.

Murphy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Murphy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Guy is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Guy wants to stand but Murphy is controlling his posture from full guard.
Murphy keeping moving, preventing Guy from controlling successfully.
Guy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Guy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Murphy throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Murphy has his feet on Guy's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Guy tries a head kick but it misses.
As Guy looks to move away, Murphy throws a big counter combo but Guy just gets out of the way.
A head kick misses from Guy.
Guy doesn't manage to clinch there - Murphy circles away.

Guy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Murphy to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Guy wants to get back to his feet but Murphy passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ground and pound from Murphy.
Murphy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Guy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Guy is trying to get back to full guard.
Murphy is controlling the pace.
Murphy is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Curtis Murphy will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Guy tries to clinch

and Murphy counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Guy scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Murphy manages to mount him!
Murphy avoids the attempt from Guy to control.

Murphy with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Guy is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Murphy locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Guy is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Curtis Murphy!
