Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
31 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
30 - 20 - 3, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yancy Malaki! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anderson scores with a jab to the head.
Malaki has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Anderson. Yancy Malaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Malaki moves out of range as Anderson strikes. Malaki let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Malaki scores with a hook. Malaki checks the leg kick nicely there.
Malaki works the jab nicely. Nice uppercut there from Anderson. Anderson scores with a jab to the head.
Anderson moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Anderson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Anderson gets in close and instigates a clinch. Malaki manages to break the clinch.
Anderson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Malaki is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Malaki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Anderson was well out of range. Poor timing from Malaki. Anderson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Anderson. Anderson misses with a right hand and Anderson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Malaki moves out of range of the strikes. It seemed like Malaki was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Malaki changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A big left from Malaki misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anderson throws a nice outside leg kick. Anderson defending well as Malaki loads up on a big left hand. Anderson with a hook. A jab from Anderson misses. Malaki takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

and Malaki counters with a left to the body. Malaki tests Anderson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Malaki takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Anderson digs a good body shot into Malaki's ribs. Anderson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Malaki needs to keep his hands up - Anderson had a free shot at his head there. Anderson punishes Malaki's body with a nice straight punch. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Anderson tests Malaki's chin there with a solid looking shot. That's two minutes gone in the round. Malaki misses with a looping left. Anderson cracks the inside of Malaki's front leg. Malaki moves out of range of the strikes. That kick from Anderson tenderised Malaki's leg. Malaki is trying to keep his angry face on. Malaki uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Anderson. Anderson ducks under a wild hook from Malaki. Anderson moves out of range as Malaki strikes. Malaki throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Nice body punch from Anderson. Malaki misses with a hook. Malaki shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Nice jab there from Anderson. A good leg kick by Anderson. Malaki bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Malaki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Anderson was well out of range. Poor timing from Malaki. As Malaki backs away, Anderson returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Jab by Malaki. Anderson throws a leg kick which misses Malaki's front leg but catches the back leg as Malaki tries to avoid it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Malaki misses with a looping left. Anderson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Anderson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Malaki. Malaki throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Anderson sees it coming and avoids it easily. Anderson throws a sloppy body shot
and Malaki counters with a lovely straight right hand! Malaki misses with a low kick.
A big head kick from Anderson and Malaki is sent sprawling to the canvas!
Malaki is rocked! Anderson sitting in guard here, content to control. Malaki is still in real trouble! Can Anderson finish him? Anderson looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Anderson is stalling in the full guard. Malaki seems to have recovered his senses. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Malaki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Anderson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Malaki swivels though and keeps the full guard. Anderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Malaki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Anderson's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Malaki lands a couple of decent looking shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sparky Anderson dominated that round. That's time! Anderson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Malaki misses the jab. Good exchange - Anderson coming out on top. Anderson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Malaki can do to turn this around? Anderson misses with a body shot.
Anderson misses with an uppercut. Malaki saw that one coming. Anderson moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Anderson throws a low kick but it's checked well by Malaki. Anderson missing with a left hand there. Malaki was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. A nice leg kick lands there from Anderson. Malaki takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Anderson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Malaki. Anderson with a hook. Anderson darts in and clinches Malaki up against the cage. Anderson scores with a shoulder strike. Anderson tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Malaki's elbow. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Malaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Anderson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Malaki momentarily.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Anderson, as that shot connected.
Malaki takes a swing at Anderson's ribcage but misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Malaki checks a leg kick. Anderson missing with a left hand there. Malaki was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Malaki throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Malaki walks into a stiff left hand from Anderson. Sparky Anderson is winning the standup battle so far. Anderson jabbing away but nothing is landing. Malaki showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Anderson.
Malaki misses with a low kick.
Anderson throws a lazy right hand but Malaki sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Anderson moves out of range as Malaki strikes. Malaki's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Malaki throws a head kick that misses and Anderson counters with a leg kick. Anderson connects with a single shot there. A slapping leg kick lands for Anderson.
Malaki shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Anderson scoring well with a low kick there.
Anderson throws a looping overhand right but Malaki ducks down to avoid it. Anderson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Malaki.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Malaki moves away from the strike by Anderson. A jab from Anderson does it's job there. Anderson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. A counter left hand to the body from Anderson misses its target. Malaki gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. No joy there for Malaki, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
