PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Leduc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Dantes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Leduc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Dantes!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dantes closes the distance and clinches.
Leduc working aggressively here.
Dantes told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Dantes tries to pull guard but Leduc forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Dantes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dantes scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Dantes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Leduc pinned against the cage. Leduc gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Leduc stuffs the takedown attempt from Dantes. Dantes gets slowly back to his feet.
Joe Leduc has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Dantes.
Leduc fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Dantes is out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dantes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dantes doesn't manage to clinch there - Leduc circles away.
Leduc throws a jab but it's blocked by Dantes.
Marcus Dantes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Leduc looks to land a left hand but Dantes moved out of range nicely.

Leduc thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Leduc seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Dantes has his hands clasped together around Leduc's back. He's all about the action.
Dantes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Leduc throws a big right hand that misses.
Leduc postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Leduc chips away with some ground and pound.
Leduc wants to control from the top but Dantes keeps moving.
Dantes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Dantes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Dantes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Leduc does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Leduc is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's time! Leduc's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A nice leg kick lands there from Dantes.
Dantes takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Leduc misses with a wild body shot.
Dantes fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Leduc attempts a counter takedown but Dantes avoids it well and moves away.
Leduc lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Dantes moves forwards but Leduc connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Leduc is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dantes can do to turn this around?

Dantes dives in for a single leg takedown but Leduc sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Dantes throws a half hearted mid kick.
It looked like Leduc wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Leduc ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Leduc misses with a shot to the body
and Dantes counters with a nice leg kick.
Dantes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A clash of legs there as Dantes blocks the low kick.
Dantes wants to counter with a clinch but Leduc pushes him away.
Leduc swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Leduc connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Leduc throws a body punch but Dantes moves out of range.

Dantes clinches up with Leduc and pushes him back against the cage.

Dantes breaks from the clinch.
Dantes stalks Leduc and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Leduc's face. Leduc staggers backwards, shaken.
Dantes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dantes moves out of range as Leduc strikes.

Dantes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Leduc makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Leduc.
Leduc is pulling down on Dantes's head to control his posture.

Dantes wants to get up but he can't break Leduc's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dantes trying to control the position from guard on top but Leduc is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dantes gets to his feet - Leduc follows without any prompting.
Dantes swings for the body but Leduc moves out of range.
Leduc cracks Dantes with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
A cross from Leduc lands.
Leduc misses with a body shot.
Dantes throws a head kick but Leduc moves out of range.
Leduc displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dantes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joe Leduc will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
