PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Borsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simpson comes to the cage accompanied by Burzum - Key To The Gate. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Michael Simpson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ron Borsen!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Borsen moves into the clinch successfully.
Simpson letting Borsen take a breather here.
Simpson tries for a takedown. No joy.

Borsen has Simpson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Borsen pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Simpson tumbling to the mat - Borsen dives into Simpson's guard.
Simpson wants to get back to his feet but Borsen passes into half guard.

Borsen content to control rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simpson is trying to get back to full guard.

Simpson is looking for a sweep. Borsen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Simpson throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Borsen moves into full mount! Simpson won't be happy about that!
Borsen postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Simpson looks a forlorn figure.

Borsen cracks Simpson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Borsen has control of Simpson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Simpson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Borsen lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

BOOM! Borsen connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Simpson is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Borsen scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Borsen prevents Simpson from getting the reversal.
Simpson wants to hold on but Borsen pushes him away.
Simpson is looking to get to half guard.
Borsen is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Borsen avoids the attempt from Simpson to control.

You get the feeling that Simpson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Borsen is landing with some decent strikes but Simpson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Simpson is desperately trying to improve his position but Borsen has a good base and remains in mount.

Borsen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Borsen showed some decent athleticism there.

Borsen rushes Simpson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Borsen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Simpson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Borsen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Borsen tries to free his leg and advance position but Simpson is retaining full guard.
Simpson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Simpson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Simpson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Simpson is working hard here to advance position.
Borsen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Simpson throws his legs up looking for a submission but Borsen uses it to pass to side control.
Simpson wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Borsen in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Borsen is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Simpson's shoulder. That is not cool.

Borsen decides to stand up, so the ref orders Simpson to his feet.

Borsen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Borsen working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Borsen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Borsen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Simpson, up you get!
Simpson misses with a head kick.

Simpson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Borsen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Simpson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Borsen presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Borsen drags the fight down to the ground.
Simpson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Borsen's guard.

Borsen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Simpson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Simpson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Borsen is breathing heavily.

Simpson gets to his feet - Borsen follows without any prompting.

and Borsen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Simpson manages to escape and get back to his feet.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Simpson misses with a head kick.

Borsen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Simpson!
Simpson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Simpson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Simpson tries to get to full guard but Borsen has control of the leg.
Nice strikes from Borsen there.
Simpson wants to control but Borsen is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Borsen seems to be working for a kimura but Simpson defends the submission attempt.
Borsen is keen to just control but Simpson is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Borsen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Simpson gets caught napping as Borsen dives in and scores a takedown. Simpson manages to retain guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Simpson is on top in guard.

Borsen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ron Borsen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Borsen keeping moving, preventing Simpson from controlling successfully.
Simpson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Borsen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Simpson is looking to work some ground and pound but Borsen has wrist control.

Borsen pushes Simpson off and scrambles back to his feet.
Borsen takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Borsen has managed to clinch.
Borsen lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Borsen gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Simpson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Borsen controls the pace.

Borsen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Borsen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Borsen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Borsen passes into side control, despite Simpson's attempt to control the position.

Borsen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Simpson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Simpson wants to get back to his feet.

Simpson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Ron Borsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Borsen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Simpson bucks up and tries to throw Borsen off but instead Borsen has got his back!
Ron Borsen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
