The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
monteiro moves into range and connects with a jab.

monteiro shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Penn's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but monteiro can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Penn tries to land a sweep but no joy.

monteiro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn wants to sweep here but monteiro controlling him for the moment.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says monteiro as he avoids it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from monteiro.
Penn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
monteiro is looking to regain half guard here but Penn keeps moving and retains side control.

Penn is landing with some decent strikes but monteiro is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Penn fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Penn lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Penn is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and monteiro reverses the position - he's now on top in Penn's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Vitor Penn will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. monteiro tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag monteiro to the ground. monteiro escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

monteiro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no monteiro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
