PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Elias Single (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Caine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elias Single!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Caine!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Columbo Gatti and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Caine shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Single looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Caine is working for a kimura but Single is defending it quite comfortably.
Caine content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Ground and pound from Caine.
Single tries to roll over but Caine keeps him under control.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Caine in particular looking to stall.
Single wants to get back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Caine not doing much here.

Single is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Caine pulls his head out easily.
Single won't allow Caine to pass to mount.
Caine content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Caine throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

I looks like Caine might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Single is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Single is working hard here to advance position.

Caine looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Single is trying to control but can't.
Caine controlling the pace.
Single wants to get back to full guard but Caine has passed into side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Marcus Caine just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Single is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Single gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Caine counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Single looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Single is breathing heavily.
Caine controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Caine dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Single gets caught flat footed, as Caine shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Caine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Single swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Caine decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Caine counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Caine wants to pass the guard but Single is keeping the position.
Caine sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Single's guard.
Caine is controlling the pace.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Single trying to control here.
Still in half guard, Caine seems content to control.
Caine missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Caine looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Caine is looking for a kimura here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Caine has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Single wants to control but Caine is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Single is defending against the submission attempts here by Caine.
Caine wants to pass to mount but Single is defending the position.

Caine wants to take a breather but Single is having none of it.
Single trying to control from the bottom.
Single moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Single being controlled here, momentarily.
Single is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Caine is staying active underneath Single, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Caine is looking to improve his position.
Caine is trying is best to control the position here.
Caine works his way to full guard. Good work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Caine holds on and takes a little breather.

Marcus Caine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Single tries to clinch up

and Caine counters with a shoot takedown. Single fights it but they end up in guard.
Caine trying to control the position from guard on top but Single is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Single is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Caine prevents Single from getting back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Caine scores with a takedown into Single's guard.
Caine not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Single wants to stand but Caine is controlling the position.
Marcus Caine has got the better of the ground game so far.
Caine controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Single controls Caine momentarily but Caine frees himself.
Single wants to control but Caine passes easily into half guard.
Single is trying to get back to full guard.
Single wants to get back to his feet.
Caine seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Caine works his way into full mount!

Caine tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Caine moves to back control.
Good control from Caine.

Single is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Caine gets his way!

Marcus Caine is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Caine has the hooks in. Single is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Elias Single has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Caine has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Single's body.

Marcus Caine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Caine has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
