Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vasilli Drakov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arthur Mandanda! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Bruno Lombardi and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mandanda shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Drakov actively working from the bottom here. Mandanda is trying to work for a kimura but Drakov is defending well.
Mandanda uses his free foot to push down on Drakov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Drakov. Drakov really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Drakov sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mandanda winds up and cracks Drakov with a swinging punch to the side of the head. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mandanda working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. Drakov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Mandanda is pressing down on Drakov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Drakov is holding on for now.

Drakov works his way to full guard. Good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Drakov has his foot on Mandanda's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mandanda works his way back into a safe position though. We've been hearing good reports from Drakov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. That's two minutes gone in the round. Mandanda looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Drakov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mandanda is working for a kimura but Drakov is defending it quite comfortably.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mandanda lands a nice short elbow. Mandanda is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Drakov has managed to free his arm - good work. Drakov is defending against the submission attempts here by Mandanda.

Drakov's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Mandanda connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Drakov scrambles back to his feet. Drakov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mandanda as he avoids it easily. Mandanda dodges the punch combination from Drakov.
Mandanda shoots in and bounces Drakov off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mandanda trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mandanda trying to control the position from guard on top but Drakov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Drakov throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Mandanda slips nicely into half guard. Mandanda looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mandanda is looking to advance position but Drakov won't allow it. Mandanda is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Drakov has managed to free his arm - good work. Drakov scores with a few weak punches. Mandanda moves into full mount! Drakov won't be happy about that! Drakov is looking to improve his position but Mandanda isn't that keen on the idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Mandanda looking to control but Drakov is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Drakov defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mandanda. Drakov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Drakov is looking to improve his position but Mandanda isn't that keen on the idea. Mandanda tries to control but Drakov wriggling away. Drakov regains half guard. Drakov tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Mandanda is looking to take a break and control but Drakov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mandanda is pressing down on Drakov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Drakov is holding on for now. Drakov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mandanda pulls his head out easily. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Drakov is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mandanda scores with a couple of nice shots. Drakov is pressing down on Mandanda's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Arthur Mandanda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mandanda! But no joy. Drakov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mandanda.
Drakov misses with a takedown and Mandanda counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Drakov thinking. Drakov takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Mandanda has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Drakov showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mandanda.

That's one minute gone in the round. Drakov misses with a takedown and Mandanda counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Sloppy strikes from Mandanda. Those never looked like landing. Mandanda misses with the combination.
Drakov changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Vasilli Drakov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Drakov throws a right and a left that Mandanda avoids nicely. Mandanda connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Drakov momentarily.

Drakov closes the distance but Mandanda moves to the side and Mandanda counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mandanda changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Drakov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Drakov is looking to regain half guard here but Mandanda keeps moving and retains side control. Drakov sneaks back into half guard. Mandanda scoring with strikes to the body and head. Arthur Mandanda has got the better of the ground game so far. Drakov punching from the bottom.
Drakov is staying active underneath Mandanda, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Drakov tries to roll over but Mandanda keeps him under control. Mandanda is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Mandanda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Drakov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Drakov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mandanda moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Drakov. Mandanda is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Drakov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Drakov is looking for a sweep. Mandanda takes a little break here. Drakov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Mandanda swings around for an armbar but Drakov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mandanda's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mandanda keeping moving, preventing Drakov from controlling successfully. Mandanda avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. And that's the end of the fight! Arthur Mandanda comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Mandanda has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Arthur Mandanda! Arthur Mandanda decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
