Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rody Garbrandt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benjamin Brooks! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garbrandt throws a right hand that Brooks ducks under and follows up with a left that Brooks also avoids with ease. Brooks blocks a jab. Garbrandt misses with a wild body shot. Brooks tries to counter by closing the distance. Garbrandt misses with a jab, cross combination.

Garbrandt swings and misses with a shot to the body and Brooks counters with a one-two to the body. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brooks is defended easily by Garbrandt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brooks is looking to land body kicks. A little feinted left hand from Garbrandt on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Garbrandt looks to throw the jab but Brooks is out of range. Brooks rushes Garbrandt and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Brooks tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Garbrandt just stands there and leans against the cage. Brooks pulls guard effortlessly.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brooks has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Brooks keeping moving, preventing Garbrandt from controlling successfully. Garbrandt being controlled here momentarily. Garbrandt wants to control from the top but Brooks keeps moving. Brooks is controlling Garbrandt's posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Brooks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Garbrandt manages to get himself to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Brooks prevents Garbrandt from getting back to his feet. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Brooks passes Garbrandt's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Brooks passes to full mount! Brooks throwing strikes here but Garbrandt is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Brooks controlling the pace for now. Garbrandt is trying to stand but he's just given Brooks his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Garbrandt wants to get back to his feet. Brooks working for the choke. Brooks tightening his grip on Garbrandt, looking for the choke. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Benjamin Brooks dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Brooks shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Garbrandt as he avoids it easily. Brooks gets in close and instigates a clinch. Brooks's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Garbrandt throws an overhand right that lands on Brooks's shoulder, as Brooks tries to avoid the shot. Garbrandt tries to bum rush Brooks with a series of wild strikes but Brooks uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Brooks closes the distance and clinches. Brooks pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Garbrandt swings for the body but Brooks moves out of range.

Brooks has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Brooks closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Garbrandt to the mat! Garbrandt manages to get full guard. Garbrandt wants to get back to his feet but Brooks passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brooks seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Brooks moves nicely into side control. Garbrandt tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Brooks looking to secure an arm triangle but Garbrandt defends it well. Garbrandt wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Brooks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garbrandt has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever. Brooks is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Brooks has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Garbrandt has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Brooks controls the position. Garbrandt trying to get back to his feet but Brooks is in full control for now. Brooks biding his time, controlling Garbrandt. Garbrandt defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Brooks looking for the choke but no joy. Brooks is looking for the choke from the back position but Garbrandt is controlling his hands well. Brooks has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Brooks tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Garbrandt throws a right and a left that both miss. Brooks is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Garbrandt throws a body shot but no joy. Brooks wants to counter the offense by Garbrandt and move into the clinch position. Brooks has Garbrandt up against the cage in a clinch.
Garbrandt tries to circle away but Brooks has him pinned against the cage. Brooks goes for a takedown attempt but Garbrandt pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Brooks fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Garbrandt looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Rody Garbrandt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brooks has taken the fight to the clinch.

Brooks is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Garbrandt is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Benjamin Brooks has got the better of the ground game so far. Brooks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Garbrandt manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Brooks looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Brooks works his way into full mount! Both fighters are breathing heavily. Brooks sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Brooks takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Brooks thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
