4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Leary! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Roberts and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leary shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Leary is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Holmes keeping full guard, as Leary tries to pass. Leary wants to control from the top but Holmes keeps moving. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holmes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Leary works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leary tries to pass the half guard into mount. Holmes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Holmes wants to get back to full guard. Leary wants to free his trapped foot but Holmes is holding on for dear life with his legs. Leary works his foot free and advances to mount. Leary looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Leary trying to control but Holmes is having none of it. Leary controlling from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Holmes wants to control but Leary is having none of it. Leary is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Holmes has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Holmes! Leary looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Leary is trying to control the position but Holmes postures up. Leary is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Holmes wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Leary's closed guard. He's half up but Leary has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Leary pivots and extends the arm, Holmes falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Leary! Well done that man!
