Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Karlson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Aaron Shepherd has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Aaron Shepherd seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aaron Shepherd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Karlson! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shepherd shoots in looking for a takedown. Karlson tries to sprawl out of it but Shepherd keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Karlson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. No luck with that takedown attempt from Shepherd. Karlson gets a double leg takedown into Shepherd's guard. Shepherd looking to hit a scissor sweep but Karlson is one step ahead there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shepherd escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Karlson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Shepherd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karlson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shepherd looking to hit a scissor sweep but Karlson is one step ahead there. Shepherd keeping moving, preventing Karlson from controlling successfully. Shepherd throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Shepherd is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Karlson wants to control from the top but Shepherd keeps moving. Shepherd tries to land a sweep but no joy. Shepherd preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Shepherd looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Karlson drops back looking for a leg! Shepherd is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shepherd manages to kick Karlson off! Karlson jumps back into Shepherd's guard. Karlson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shepherd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Karlson wants to control from the top but Shepherd keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shepherd lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shepherd controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Karlson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shepherd's guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Karlson working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shepherd bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Karlson's guard. Shepherd stays in close to Karlson's body and controls the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aaron Shepherd dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Karlson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shepherd is trying to defend but Karlson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Shepherd trying to control from the bottom.
Shepherd is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Karlson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Karlson is trying to control the action in half guard but Shepherd is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Shepherd trying to hold on to Karlson's head to control him but Karlson postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shepherd is looking to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round. Shepherd wants to sweep here but Karlson controlling him for the moment. Karlson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Shepherd wants to sweep but no luck. Shepherd looking to control.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. A momentary lapse in concentration from Shepherd enables Karlson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shepherd manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Shepherd is trying to keep Karlson in close.
Karlson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Shepherd wants to sweep here but Karlson controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Karlson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Shepherd is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Karlson defends well. Karlson wants to control from the top but Shepherd keeps moving. Karlson throws a sloppy strike and Shepherd has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Karlson is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Shepherd!
