Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Refugio Farmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edson Barboza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Refugio Farmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edson Barboza!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barboza keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Farmer clinches up against the cage.
Farmer fails to pull guard.
Farmer tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barboza just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Refugio Farmer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Farmer tries to pull guard but Barboza forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Barboza manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barboza shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Barboza was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Barboza tries to move to mount but Farmer blocks the move with his legs.
Farmer is looking to reverse the position.
Barboza is trying to ground and pound but Farmer uses the momentary lack of control by Barboza to regain half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Farmer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Barboza is working away from the top position though.

Farmer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Barboza pulls his head out easily.
Farmer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Barboza is thwarting Farmer's attempts to control the position.
Barboza content to control rather than advance.
Barboza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Farmer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Barboza is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Barboza closes the distance and pushes Farmer back into the cage.
Farmer tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barboza just stands there and leans against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Farmer jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barboza walks away with a smile on his face. Farmer gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Farmer fails with an attempt to clinch.

Barboza gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Barboza breaks the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Farmer tries to clinch there but Barboza circles away.
Barboza keeps the fight on the outside.
Barboza throws a head kick that misses

and Farmer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Barboza controls Farmer momentarily but Farmer frees himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barboza is on top in guard.

Barboza postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Barboza wants to control from the top but Farmer keeps moving.

Barboza stands and steps away. Farmer gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edson Barboza dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Farmer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Barboza paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Barboza clinches.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

and Barboza decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Farmer's guard.

Farmer pushes Barboza off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Refugio Farmer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Farmer tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Barboza defends well and Farmer ends up having to push Barboza into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Farmer misses with a two punch combination.
Nice body kick there by Barboza.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Barboza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Farmer counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Barboza!

Barboza sneaks out the side door and pushes Farmer away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Despite the aggression on Barboza's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Barboza looks to throw a body kick

and Farmer counters with a nice double leg into side control. Barboza won't be happy with that.
Farmer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Farmer fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Edson Barboza has got the better of the ground game so far.
Barboza is trying to get back to half guard.

Farmer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barboza knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Farmer staying calm.

Farmer trying to control the position but Barboza is working away.

Farmer looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Farmer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Farmer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Farmer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barboza has escaped the position, nice work there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barboza tries to escape but Farmer is in control.
Barboza is looking to reverse the position.
Barboza is not content to let Farmer control the position.
Barboza holds on to Farmer's head and controls the position momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Farmer wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Barboza, who protects the arm well.

Farmer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barboza has escaped the position, nice work there.
Barboza defending against the ground and pound.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Edson Barboza will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Farmer fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Barboza, pushing him back against the cage.
Farmer blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Barboza pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Barboza cracks a nice hook into Farmer's ribs.
Farmer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barboza swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Farmer walks into a stiff left hand from Barboza.

Barboza closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Farmer pulls Barboza into guard.

Farmer looking for a guillotine here but Barboza defends easily.
Barboza tries to free his leg and advance position but Farmer is retaining full guard.
Barboza trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Farmer manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Barboza is staying active underneath Farmer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Barboza manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Farmer keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Barboza with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Barboza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Barboza rushes Farmer and presses him up against the cage.

Farmer manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Barboza wants to control from the top but Farmer keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Farmer looking for a sweep. Not yet Farmer, not yet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Barboza drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Farmer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barboza has Farmer in his guard.

Barboza is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Refugio Farmer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Edson Barboza is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Farmer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Barboza is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Farmer, into his guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Edson Barboza.
I've got Barboza winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
