Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Uriah Faber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Omar Harrak! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Faber shoots in and bounces Harrak off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Harrak keeping full guard, as Faber tries to pass. Faber advances position into side control! Faber tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Faber has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Faber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Harrak keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Faber tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Faber has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Harrak keeping his opponent close.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harrak tries to get back to half guard but can't. Faber remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Faber looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Faber is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Harrak has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Faber tries for a kimura but Harrak is defending well. Harrak wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Harrak is not content to let Faber control the position. Faber controlling the position from side mount. Harrak is trying to control Faber's posture but Faber avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Faber has hold of Harrak's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Harrak seems comfortable defending it but Faber has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Harrak is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Harrak is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Faber couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Uriah Faber! Uriah Faber took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
