Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rolf Bell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Billy Jean Smith! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith has managed to clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Smith obliges. Bell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bell to score an easy takedown into full guard. Smith has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Bell has passed into side control.
Bell scores with punches from side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bell throwing shots but missing, from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working. Smith being controlled for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Bell has just dragged him back down to the mat. Bell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Bell content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. A control attempt from Smith but he's now mounted!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Smith working to try and regain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith is trying to stand up. Bell misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Bell is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smith to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith shrugs it off. Smith throwing hammer fists to the chest of Bell. What's that going to do exactly? Bell avoids the attempt from Smith to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Smith is looking to get to half guard. Bell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smith is looking to escape. Smith tries to lock up and control but Bell gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Smith is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Bell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Smith is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bell feints and as Smith raises his hands in defense, Bell changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Smith has Bell pulled in close to control his posture. Bell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around? Smith looking for a guillotine here but Bell defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Bell misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Bell wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy. Smith is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bell asserts his dominance and retains side control. Smith is trying to control Bell's posture but Bell avoids it. Smith is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Bell off and has taken his back!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bell trying to control but not successfully. Bell manages to reverse the position and now he's in Smith's guard. Nice work there by Bell.

Bell gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting. Bell moves into range and clinches up with Smith. Bell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Bell to the mat. Bell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Bell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rolf Bell dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

It looks like Rolf Bell has been cut. Smith looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Smith has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Montreal. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Bell is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well. Smith is looking to stand up but Bell won't let him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith stands and steps away. Bell gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Smith scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
That's one minute gone in the round. Bell fails in his attempt to clinch. Smith instigates a clinch. Bell tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually Bell drops back down to his feet.

Smith gets through Bell's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Smith breaks the clinch.
Bell drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith sneaks out the side door and pushes Bell away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bell tries to clinch but fails miserably letting Smith counter with a right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Bell is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
Bell is rocked! Smith drops an elbow to the side of Bell's head. Oh Bell is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Bell is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily. Bell seems to have got his legs back now. Smith is figuring out what he wants to do next. Bell misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Bell regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bell is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Smith throws a leg kick that misses. Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Smith tries for a kimura but Bell is defending well. Bell is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Bell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back! Bell is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Smith up.
