13 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bryan Mayhem! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mayhem darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Mayhem on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Pauwels slips under a jab. Mayhem lands a jab to the nose. Pauwels takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Mayhem fails with the takedown. Pauwels swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A looping hook to the body misses from Mayhem. Pauwels does a little dance to reset his feet. Pauwels throwing a counter right hand but Mayhem manages to avoid it. Bryan Mayhem seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mayhem tries to clinch and Pauwels counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Mayhem thinking. Pauwels rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mayhem counters with a straight right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice shot by Mayhem. Pauwels looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Mayhem keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mayhem takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Mayhem has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Mayhem lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. A left lands for Mayhem. Mayhem clinches. Mayhem blocks an uppercut.
Pauwels swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mayhem jumps guard.
Pauwels looking to sit in guard and control but Mayhem gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Mayhem works over Pauwels with some ground and pound from guard. Mayhem has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mayhem throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Pauwels avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Mayhem passes Pauwels 's left leg - he's now in half guard. Pauwels knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mayhem on the ground. Pauwels tries to roll over but Mayhem keeps him under control. Mayhem is looking to advance position but Pauwels won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pauwels has hold of Mayhem's hands but Mayhem slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Mayhem scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Mayhem missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Mayhem wants to take a breather but Pauwels is having none of it. Ground and pound from Mayhem. Pauwels wants to get back to full guard. Mayhem looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pauwels with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mayhem throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Mayhem missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mayhem lands a nice short elbow. That's four minutes gone in the round. Mayhem slips a nice elbow through Pauwels 's hands, connecting with Pauwels 's forehead. Pauwels tries to roll over but Mayhem keeps him under control. Mayhem throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Mayhem looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Pauwels on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pauwels tries to get out of the position. Mayhem landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Pauwels is rocked! Mayhem working the head and body with strikes. Oh Pauwels is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Mayhem lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Pauwels ! More strikes land and this one is all over! Mayhem jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
