PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Wilkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yogi Dhamma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilkins comes to the cage accompanied by Sans Pression - Numero 1. Dhamma comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Power Of Soul kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that Jay Wilkins has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jay Wilkins seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yogi Dhamma!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wilkins closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dhamma to the mat! Dhamma manages to get full guard.
Wilkins throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dhamma doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Dhamma wants to stand but Wilkins is controlling the position.

Dhamma throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Dhamma has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wilkins works over Dhamma with some ground and pound from guard.
Wilkins wants to control from the top but Dhamma keeps moving.

Dhamma utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wilkins sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dhamma's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilkins thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dhamma's head.
Dhamma works his way to full guard. Good work.
Wilkins throwing strikes but missing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dhamma is on top in guard.

Wilkins looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dhamma is one step ahead there.

Dhamma tries to free his leg and advance position but Wilkins is retaining full guard.
Wilkins is trying to control the position but Dhamma postures up.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Wilkins keeping moving, preventing Dhamma from controlling successfully.

Dhamma drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dhamma jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wilkins trying to keep a closed guard but Dhamma is proving a slippery customer.
Wilkins looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Dhamma passes Wilkins's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Wilkins wants to control but Dhamma is keeping busy.

Dhamma is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wilkins sees it coming and defends easily.

Dhamma is looking for a kimura here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dhamma lands a nice short elbow.

Dhamma in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Wilkins tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dhamma!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Yogi Dhamma!
Yogi Dhamma very nearly forgot to thank Spartan Nutrition amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
