PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Keni Susi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Susi comes to the ring accompanied by Metallica - Hero of the Day. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Keni Susi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Jimmy Conway!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conway fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Conway shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Conway tries to pass the half guard into mount. Susi knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Susi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Susi.

Susi looking for a guillotine here but Conway defends easily.
Susi controls Conway momentarily but Conway frees himself.

Susi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Conway is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Conway thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Conway looks gassed!

Susi had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Conway is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Susi Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Conway's back instead.

Susi is trying to stick to Conway's back but Conway is turning into Susi. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Susi's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Conway.
Conway wants to pass the guard but Susi is keeping the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Susi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Conway doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Conway manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Susi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Conway can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Susi has his foot on Conway's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Conway works his way back into a safe position though.

Conway drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Conway jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Conway stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Susi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Susi is looking for a triangle but Conway pushes his legs off easily.

Conway stands and steps away. Susi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Susi feints and as Conway raises his hands in defense, Susi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Susi works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Susi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Susi seems to be working for a kimura but Conway defends the submission attempt.
Conway is refusing to be controlled, as Susi sits in half guard.

Susi throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A head kick misses from Conway.

Susi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Conway!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keni Susi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Conway with a lazy takedown attempt

and Susi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Susi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Susi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Conway isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Susi stacks Conway on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Susi!

Susi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Conway knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Conway has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Susi celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
